- Crush Margin: The soybean crush margin is the value of the oil and meal produced from the soybeans less the cost of the soybeans. The crush margin is therefore based on the inter-relationship among the three legs of the soybean complex, and is not directly related to the absolute price of any of the three legs. Crush margins rise and fall depending on the demand for the products (oil and meal), the availability of the raw material (soybeans) and the amount of the crushing capacity that is operating.
- Expeller pressing is a mechanical method for extracting oil from raw materials. The raw materials are squeezed under high pressure in a single step. When used for the extraction of food oils, typical raw materials are nuts, seeds and algae, which are supplied to the press in a continuous feed. Expeller presses can recover 75% of the oil from algae. As the raw material is pressed, friction causes it to heat up; in the case of harder nuts (which require higher pressures) the material can exceed temperatures of 120 °F

- JobZ Program: Passed into law by the 2003 Legislature and launched on January 1, 2004, the Job Opportunity Building Zone (JOBZ) initiative is Minnesota’s marquee rural economic development stimulus program. The program provides substantial tax relief to companies that start up or expand in targeted areas of Greater Minnesota – from the date they sign a business subsidy agreement until the program expires on December 31, 2015. The program identifies 10 zones encompassing more than 300 communities in every region of the state (except in the seven Twin Cities metropolitan counties). Besides targeting areas hit by economic distress, the program also aims to promote development in places that are already poised for business growth and have adequate infrastructure in place. It also seeks out places where favorable conditions exist for restoring productivity to under-used and unproductive properties through development, redevelopment, reclamation or recycling.
